By Mark Anthony Meteorologist
After all the heat from last week we finally got some rain on Friday, and a break from the oppressive heat and humidity.
Much of the region picked up some rain. The heaviest rain on Friday fell in northwestern Minnesota where an inch or more was reported around the Barnesville, Glyndon, and Moorhead areas.
On the backside of this system, we had cooler temperatures on Friday and Saturday. Highs were generally in the upper 70s and lower 80s on Friday and Saturday.
By Sunday, we were back into the upper 80s and lower 90s for much of the region. The good news is that the dew points continued to be in the upper 40s and lower 50s on Sunday.
It will be warm on Wednesday. We could see some much needed rain move in late Wednesday night into Thursday and again on Sunday as a couple of weather disturbances are projected to move in the state. Temperatures will continue to be at average or above average through the weekend.
Keep your fingers crossed for some rain along the way.
Weather history: On this date in 1992 the National Weather Service reported a “total of 27 tornadoes” across the state. The tornadoes touched in the “communities of Chandler, Lake Wilson, -Clarkfield and Cokato” where there was considerable damage.
