Local gymnast advances in gymnastics

Alison Olson is a junior at Eden Valley-Watkins High School. She started gymnastics at Granite City Gymnastics in Waite Park when she was just 9 years old. She has worked her way up through the levels in the Junior Olympic program and is now a Level 9 gymnast, with level 10 being the highest she could compete at.

Alison competes in the All-Around, which consists of vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise routines. Alison travels
40 minutes each way, five times a week to practice, with an average training time of 16 hours a week. Alison does all of this, plus manages to find time to juggle homework, a part-time job, and still have time for a social life.

Alison has shown great dedication to her team and is a leader in the gym. Alison finished in ninth place on the balance beam at the state meet last month. Alison earned a 35.025 score in the all-around to qualify her for the regional meet which will be held in Bettendorf, Iowa, in April. If all goes well in Iowa, she will qualify for the national meet which will be held in May.

Good luck to Alison with the rest of her competition season!
