First discussion tackles systemic racism, economic benefit of slavery in Minnesota
The Stearns History Museum is partnering with UniteCloud to launch a quarterly book club that connects history to diversity, equity, and inclusion topics that impact our community. Minnesota authors who bring a broad spectrum of voices to the table will lead the discussions, providing context to often absent narratives in local history.
The first meeting features Christopher Lehman and his award-winning book, “Slavery’s Reach: Southern Slaveholders in the North Star State.” The free two-part virtual discussion will take place 6:30-8 p.m. Thursdays, April 8, and 22, via Zoom.
Lehman will discuss the book and his research process. He also will answer questions following the discussion. Lehman is an ethnic studies professor at St. Cloud State University and a member of the Stearns History Museum’s Board of Directors. Autographed books of “Slavery’s Reach” are available for purchase in the Museum’s store.
