By Mark Anthony, Meteorologist
We had a red flag warning for much of the region on Monday and Tuesday due to the concern over wildfires potentially breaking out across the state. This was due to warm temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds.
On Monday, the temperatures climbed into the mid- to upper-60s and lower 70s across much of the area. In addition, the winds were strong out of the southeast, gusting to around 45 mph at times. Coupled with that, we also had very low dew points. This created a dangerous situation for wildfires to breakout.
Temperatures cooled off on Tuesday, but it remained a concern for wildfires with the dry conditions and the winds remaining strong.
Expect temperatures to remain cool for the midweek. Highs should only reach the low- to mid-30s for much of the area.
We will start the warm up once again by Thursday. Highs should reach the upper 40s and lower 50s.
In case you are wondering, temperatures should climb into the 60s and even the 70s once again by this weekend for Easter Sunday. It should be a wonderful weekend to spend some time with family and for possibly an Easter egg hunt.
Weather history: On this date in 1843 historical data shows that the “low temperature at Ft. Snelling plummets to -11.”
Weather facts: A warm front is “the leading edge of advancing warm air mass that is replacing a colder air mass.” Generally, when a warm front pushes into a region, the temperature and humidity are on the rise and the pressure also increases.
