A happy group of EV-W knowledge bowlers let out a cheer Saturday, March 20, when they got the word that they had advanced to the state tournament set for April 9.

The team of Mady Haag, Zach Kuechle, Seth Roeser, Alec Zadra, and Nick Zadra competed in the 18-team section Saturday with the top six advancing to state.

“It was so awesome to see the kids’ reactions,” said head coach Julie Bulau. “They have been working so hard and getting to state has always been a goal, especially after last year when it look liked they had a strong shot to make only to see everything shut down.”

This is the first time since 2008 that EV-W has qualified for state. They also qualified in 2000 and 2002 as well as once in the mid-1980s.

St. John’s Prep also advanced from Tier I schools. Annandale and Melrose advanced from Tier II and Buffalo I and Buffalo II advanced from Tier III.

The team is coached by Julie Bulau and Renae Ward.
