At a workshop meeting Tuesday, Feb. 16, the Kimball city council will review in detail possible utility rate increases. Increased revenue is needed to help make up for water/sewer plants operating deficits. The city’s auditor, Abdo,Eick & Meyers, has done a comprehensive utility rate study that has been ready to review since December. No action has been taken yet, and no actions may be taken at a workshop. The council may be prepared to make a decision at the March 2 meeting.
At the Feb. 2 regular meeting of the Kimball city council, a public hearing was held for variances related to new construction on the corner of Highway 55 and Co. Rd. 44 in Kimball. Diva’s Inc. plans to build a new salon on that site. All four variances were approved relating to setbacks and required parking on the lot; Diva’s will provide vegetation screening between the parking lot and neighboring house.
The city has a larger plow truck on hold; it has been budgeted for, and they have the money to pay for it, but they need a larger building in which to keep it. The city’s engineer is working on plans for a building, but nothing has yet been advertised for bids.
The Kimball Fire Department received a grant from Firehouse Subs for the purchase of 11 sets of turnout gear. The gear is usually good for 10 years. They are applying for a FEMA grant to purchase radios for the department.
The council established that they would meet in workshop on Feb. 16 to discuss golf carts, and updating ordinances.
The council is looking for a date for clean-up day this year. May 8, the proposed date, is fishing opener and Mother’s Day weekend. A new date has not yet been suggested or approved.
The council discussed the importance of each member having a city email account for city business. The cost is $50/year for each account.
A resident has requested a pedestrian crossing installed on Highway 55 at Publishers Drive (across from the elementary school. The party wanting the crossing will need to make that request of MnDOT.
