Deputies Mitch Preusse, Dennis Heinen, and Brandon Merkling responded to an injury crash on Sunday, Feb. 7, just before midnight. A passerby reported finding a car on its roof, heavily damaged, lights on, and no one around.
The deputies arrived on scene and observed a set of footprints leaving the area. After some checking they determined that there was a subject at the Paynesville Hospital who was being treated for significant injuries and was about to be airlifted to the St. Cloud Hospital for further treatment. The investigation determined that the driver, Bradley Geers, 30 of Richmond, had been driving his 2002 Saturn SL2 on Co. Rd. 12 near 223rd Avenue when he went off the road. Once he entered the ditch, it is believed he also struck a tree stump and the vehicle rolled. A friend picked him up and brought him to the Paynesville Hospital.
Unfortunately, alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash, and a blood sample was obtained from Geers while at the hospital. The Stearns County Sheriff’s office reminds everyone: If you are going to drink, please find a sober ride.
