Fatal industrial accident


At 11:46 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, the Meeker County Sheriff’s Officer received a report of an industrial accident at a construction site in the 31700 block of MN Highway 22, Harvey Township. The initial report was that a concrete boom truck had tipped and two people were trapped. Meeker County Deputies, Litchfield Rescue, Litchfield Fire, Gold Cross Ambulance and LifeLink III were all dispatched to the scene. One person died at the scene as a result of injuries while a second person was airlifted from the scene with critical injuries and flown to St. Cloud Hospital. The names of the victims are being withheld until families are notified. The initial investigation revealed the stabilizing platform for the concrete boom truck gave way, causing the boom to fall to the ground. The two individuals were struck by the boom as it fell. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and OSHA has been notified. Also assisting at the scene was the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.

Follow up news release of fatal industrial accident

A follow up news release of the industrial accident Friday, Oct. 16. The identities of those involved are as follows: The deceased has been identified as Sergio Esquivel Torres, 34, no permanent address listed. The injured person who was airlifted to St. Cloud has been identified as Juan Bocardo Ibanez, 20, of Litchfield. He has since been released from the hospital.
