Our cooler temps bring leaf color changes

Mark Anthony Meteorologist

Despite temperatures in the 70s and 80s across the state of Minnesota on Monday and Tuesday,  the leaves on the trees are starting to change.

The annual fall color finder is now being updated weekly from the DNR. Across parts of Northern Minnesota the leaves are at 10% to 25% of their peak colors.

Meanwhile, across central and west central Minnesota, the colors are just starting to change. The cooler nights with lows in the 30s and 40s are helping to change the colors as the leaves stop their food making progress.

We will see those cooler temperatures settle in once again for the midweek and into the weekend. High temperatures on Thursday and Friday will only reach the low- to mid-50s across the region.

If you are wondering how the weekend is shaping up, at this stage it looks like some rain could move in by later in the day on Saturday into Sunday. We could see some showers and isolated thunderstorms along the way. Temperatures are expected to reach the low- to mid-60s over the weekend.

Enjoy the beginning of the change of the fall colors.
