The break from the heat and humidity has been very welcomed across the region. High temperatures over the weekend were very comfortable, and it felt a bit like autumn at times.
On Saturday, high temperatures reached only into the 60s in northeastern Minnesota. Grand Marais had a high of just
63 degrees. Much of the rest of central, west central, and north central Minnesota had highs in the lower 70s with dew points in the 40s and 50s.
By Sunday morning, temperatures remained cool across northern Minnesota. Ely, Minn. dropped to a rather chilly
39 degrees Sunday morning.
On Monday, temperatures remained cool. Some scattered rain moved across parts of the region mainly early in the day. Highs climbed only into the 60s and lower 70s.
Looking ahead, some scattered rain can’t be ruled out Wednesday night into Thursday as a cold front is expected to push out of the Dakotas. Temperatures will generally be below average during the period.
Some additional rain chances will return on Sunday for the Labor Day Weekend.
Enjoy the final weekend of summer as we return to “normal” after the summer break.
Weather history: On this date in 1992 records show that “severe weather” moved across parts of west central and central Minnesota. Several tornadoes were reported across the region with large hail from “Pope, Swift, Kandiyohi, Meeker, Brown, and Renville Counties!”
Weather facts: Did you know that tornadoes have been known to “act erratic, and can change directions and speed very quickly?” In addition, experts say that you should “never try to outrun a tornado in a vehicle.”
