The Kimball Boy Scout Troop 357 have been working hard on their Hiking Merit Badge. The Troop has completed the book work and so far have completed (one) five-mile hike Sunday, May 24, and (two) 10-mile hikes Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28. Mother Nature was not on the Troops side as temps rose to over 90 degrees each day with high humidity.
The Troop would like to thank Schiefelbein Farms for allowing the boys to hike from Lake Carnelian to the Schiefelbein Cottage on Lake Betsy where the boys cooled off swimming in the lake and got some fishing in. The Troop camped out at the Cottage and hiked back from Schiefelbein Farms to Lake Carnelian the next day.
The next 10-mile hike will occur Saturday, July 18, followed by a 15-mile hike and then a 20-mile hike.
The Troop voted on new positions for the next six months. Nathan Just is the Senior Patrol Leader, Ethan Erpelding is the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Robert Spoden is the Troop Guide, Alex Ludlow is the Scribe, Mitchell Just is the Chaplain aid, Jonny Serbus is the Quartermaster, and William Serbus is the Historian.
William Serbus and Jonny Serbus volunteered their time to help the Kimball Lions Club with their 4th of July burger stand.
Mitchell Just and Nathan Just completed their Family Life Merit Badge.
Up next for the Troop: 10-mile hike, 15-mile hike, 20-mile hike, fall adopt a highway cleanup, and a week-long campout.
The Troop would like to thank everyone for their can donations at Casey’s in Kimball, and would like to remind you about the Kimball Fire Department Meat Raffle every Friday night at SOBs in Kimball starting around 6 p.m. which benefits the Kimball Boy Scout Troop.
If you have a boy in 6th grade or older wanting to join the boy scouts, please contact Scoutmaster Matt Serbus at cserbus@meltel.net.
